In the advancing tourism Hospitality market few players have developed a strategy to control the rates of the hotels. We never disagree on the phenomena that they have developed Instrumental marketing techniques to lure Tourists to the particular hotels and also their potential in providing bookings to the Hotels. Our Objection are only on their stigmatic approach of deciding the ratesof the market without any true statistical data to back their claim. The claim of the present rate which they set is the trend which they have initiated for their sole beneficial gain.
We would like to throw some light to our statement mentioned above:
Whenever a guest search for a hotel in a particular city, they come across listing of the hotels in a popularity order. We would like to know how this order is decided. Inone portal where a hotel is listed down the order will be listed in another portal on the top of the list. How can the same hotel with same facility be listed in two different dimensions, In short the popularity is just a gimmick played to sabotage the vision of the guest. The higher the commission the Higher the ranking is the formula behind it. Dont you think it is a just another money game where hotelier is cheated of cash and the guest of trust.
Some Portals have come up with even fantastic Idea of setting up the rates and calling it DYNAMIC RATES. What is dynamic? In a dictionary it means a force that stimulates change or progress within a system or process. we would like to know which is the force that sets the rates, they never provide data supporting these claims.
These portals provide highest number of bookings but the revenue of the hotels will never tend to improve since the rates fixed by them are not practically possible. We never doubt their hard work and determination but question their virtue to hold the position of the decision maker when they are in the role of a booking provider.
We truly applaud their ability to have brought down the rates of the hotels and made them affordable to the common man, but our agitation is when we pounder on the other side of scenario, hotelshave lost their capacity to sustain their running cost which will lead in lowering the service standards and the removal of qualified staff who were earlierthe core in the research and development of the hotel.
we would like to sum up all the above claim by stating that anything excess or shortage is harmful for hospitality industry, There has to be a free and fair market for hotelier s to unitize their human resources in obtaining their booking where the guest have the rights to choose and the hoteliers the rights to decide and no Middle man has role above his capacity to play.
