About Us:

DIYguru is India's First DIY Learning Platform providing project based courses for engineering and diploma students to get into industries. The project is purposed to help passionate and enthusiastic high school and college students towards core technology and prepare for the future both emerging technologiesand career potential.

In its pilot phase, DIYguru worked with colleges, embedding in each school a full-time DIY Mentor, a new position that the organization designed with experts. It appoint mentors for studentsin High Schools Colleges, responsible for promoting Innovation in the field of Automobile, Robotics, 3D Printing, Drones, Aeronautics and other futuristic new ideas, promoting Govt. of India initiative Make in India.

As of 2017, DIYguru is working with 75engineering colleges across Delhi, Pune Bangalore with its online portalwhere it provides online courses on Automotive and Aerospace.

The organizations mission is to provide students the advantage of Job Opportunity and Entrepreneurship in Manufacturing Sectors by giving Skill based Training through DIY Learning approach and inspire young Indians to live lives of passion and purpose and learn how to change the world.

HOW IT STARTED

The team developed the idea of DIYguru after experiencing the lack of mentorship that they faced while doing different projects during their college days. Afterspeaking with friends and educators who were willing to devote their mentorshipto thosestudents, in general who were not inspired and were having little exposure towards skill building among different careers options available in India.

In October 2016, they built a volunteer team of thirty people and launched the DIYguru project.

The DIYguru Project provides a common platform where students and mentors can interact with each other on a particular skillset. Themodel is based on evidence of providinglearning-through-doing (active learning) in a social environment, creating informal, networked, peer-led, and shared learning motivated by fun and self-fulfillment.

DIYguru onboardDIY Mentors who are experienced in a particular skillset. They deploy one mentor to each partner High school College. DIY Mentors are embedded in area schools and work with students by teaching courses, providing coaching and counseling, and applying maker culture change techniques to motivate students.

They provide mentorship to students to take responsibility so that theyd be able to do things themselves just as a preparation for their own future. The DIY Mentors begins with a listening tour of students, faculty, and community members and then helps to craft one project for the school or college. Upon doing so, they build aDIY Teamof students called DIYguru Fellows. DIYguru Fellows subsequently develop and launch their own DIYguru Projects individual projects that the students develop over the course of a year or more with the help of expert DIY mentor. DIY Fellows are also charged with responsibility of serving as DIY Mentors for their peers, changing school/College culture through step-by-step collaboration among the community to build a variety of projects.

Over time, DIYguru Mentors work with hundreds of students to engage them in the process of helping them to discover a big idea, believe in themselves and each other, and turn their dream into reality.
