Electric mobility company Yulu has officially launched its electric vehicle services in Zirakpur, Punjab, marking its first franchise-based operation in North India. The service will be operated by SP NexGen, led by mobility entrepreneur Sahil Goyal.
This launch is part of Yulu’s expanding ‘Business Partner Initiative’, which has already established a strong presence across Central, South, West, and East India over the past year. Zirakpur strategic location—situated between Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Ambala—makes it an ideal entry point into the Tricity region.
The service is primarily aimed at the delivery sector, catering to grocery and food delivery platforms as well as gig workers. For this, Yulu has partnered with major players including Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, and Blinkit.
Speaking on the expansion, Amit Gupta, Co-founder & CEO of Yulu, said, “Chandigarh Tricity is a fast-emerging urban centre and an ideal starting point for our expansion in North India. With Sahil Goyal as our partner, we’re confident in our ability to accelerate EV adoption in the region, starting with Zirakpur. The Tricity’s dynamic growth, demand for green logistics, and policy support for EVs align well with Yulu’s mission to build a cleaner, more efficient urban mobility ecosystem.”
He added, “With this launch, Yulu is present in ten cities, including six through our YBP partners. We remain committed to collaborating with entrepreneurs across India to democratise clean, accessible and sustainable mobility alternatives.”
SP NexGen will initially deploy Yulu’s DeX electric vehicles in Zirakpur, with plans to expand operations to Peer Muchalla and Kharar. Prior to the launch, pilot programs were conducted in collaboration with local brand distribution centers to assess market demand.
To support the fleet, Yuma Energy has set up two battery swapping stations, with additional stations planned as demand grows. Yulu is also providing training to SP NexGen on operations, unit economics, and business development.
Commenting on the partnership, Sahil Goyal, Founder of SP NexGen, said, “We are proud to join hands with Yulu to introduce their industry-leading shared EV mobility solution in Zirakpur and the larger Chandigarh Tricity region. With the growing demand for sustainable delivery, we see a huge opportunity to create impact at scale. Yulu’s cutting-edge technology, strong operational support, and agile approach have made this partnership extremely promising. Our goal is to ‘Yulu-fy’ the roads of Zirakpur and beyond by enabling an efficient and future-ready delivery ecosystem that supports businesses while reducing environmental impact.”
Currently, Yulu operates in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, and Hyderabad. The company reports that users have collectively traveled over 1.3 billion kilometers using its platform, helping reduce 45 million kilograms of CO2 emissions. With the launch in Zirakpur, Yulu now operates in 10 cities, including six via franchise partnerships.
This expansion comes amid a growing demand for eco-friendly delivery solutions in urban centers, driven by the rapid rise of e-commerce and quick commerce. The Chandigarh Tricity region has also demonstrated policy support for EV adoption, aligning with broader environmental initiatives.
