Restaurant operator Unify Foodworks, which holds the exclusive pan-India master franchise rights for Moe's Casa Mexicana and Carvel, has secured Rs 5 crore in seed funding through compulsorily convertible debentures (CCDs). The funds will support the expansion of both brands across the National Capital Region (NCR), their launch market in India. The company aims to build a network of more than 100 stores nationwide over the long term, as shared in media reports.
The near-term strategy centres on increasing the brands' footprint, enhancing visibility and strengthening operational capabilities in NCR before venturing into other markets. The company will use the region to evaluate store economics, menu localisation and operating processes ahead of a wider rollout.
Moe's Casa Mexicana operates in the fast-casual Mexican food segment, serving burritos, bowls and tacos, along with India-specific offerings such as Habanero Paneer. India is the brand's first international market. Unify Foodworks also holds the master franchise rights for Moe's Southwest Grill, the larger-format restaurant concept in its portfolio.
Carvel made its entry into the Indian market in 2025, opening its first outlet in Connaught Place, New Delhi. Founded in 1934, the American ice cream brand is part of the Roark Capital portfolio, which also includes Moe's, Subway, Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin'.
Unify Foodworks will leverage its operating infrastructure to support the growth of both brands in India. This includes supply chain and logistics capabilities, standardised operating processes and digital SOP-based training programmes for store employees.
Sumer Sethi, Founder and CEO, Unify Foodworks, said, “Travel has rewired the Indian palate. Someone who has had a burrito in Atlanta or a soft serve in New York comes home expecting that exact experience, not a local approximation of it. For this consumer, consistency is the indulgence. Global brands are engineered to deliver it, but only when the operator gets the foundations right. This round gives us the runway to build those foundations store by store, so every new opening is a proven model repeated, not an experiment. Just as valuable are backers who understand consumer brands and share our long view. Our ambition is to make Unify Foodworks the go-to platform for international F&B brands entering India, scaling names that own their category without diluting what made them iconic,”
Before entering new markets, Unify Foodworks will focus on establishing a scalable and consistent operating model in NCR. Further expansion will be guided by individual store performance, supply chain readiness and the ability to uphold uniform product quality and service standards across its outlets.
