He started in the new role in October 2026 and announced the move on LinkedIn. “I’m delighted to begin a new chapter in my professional journey as I join Reliance Jewels to lead the business,” he wrote. He added that he plans to build on the brand’s legacy and look for new ways to grow it.
Kumar will be in charge of business strategy, growth and transformation at Reliance Jewels. His remit includes:
- long-term value creation
- retail expansion and building market leadership
- brand building and customer experience
- revenue, profitability and operational efficiency
He will also oversee merchandising, product strategy, commercial performance, digital innovation, omnichannel growth, and building the organisation and its leadership.
The appointment follows soon after Kumar left Bhima Jewels in Kochi, where he had been COO since 2019. In his farewell message, he called his time with the jeweller memorable and thanked the colleagues and friends he met there. He also said he was moving back to Mumbai, where he has spent much of his career.
Kumar has more than 20 years of experience in organised retail and consumer businesses. Before Bhima, he was Business Head – South at Future Group India from 2015. He has also held leadership roles at Shoppers Stop, Hindustan Unilever, Next Retail and Future Retail, among others.
He has worked across department stores, convenience retail, e-commerce, luxury, lifestyle and speciality formats. His expertise covers business transformation, P&L management, operations, category management, marketing, digital initiatives and scaling retail models.
At Reliance Jewels, he is expected to drive the next phase of growth and strengthen the brand’s position in India’s increasingly organised jewellery market.
