The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has operationalised seven electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the city as part of its efforts to promote green mobility. The civic body is also set to launch three more charging stations within a week, further strengthening the city's EV infrastructure.
Under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), the NMC planned to set up a total of 20 EV charging stations at a cost of ₹10 crore. A Delhi-based private firm was entrusted with the installation of these stations. The seven operational stations are located at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, Pramod Mahajan Garden, Ambad Link Road, Satpur Fire Station, Krishi Nagar Jogging Track, Satpur Divisional Office, and Mahatma Nagar Cricket Ground.
Civic officials confirmed that three more stations would soon be launched at Ganeshwadi Vegetable Market, Amrutdham Fire Station in Panchavati, and B. D. Bhalekar Ground. These charging stations are being powered by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).
The remaining 10 EV charging stations will be installed at five divisional offices of NMC — Nashik East, Nashik West, CIDCO, Panchavati, and Nashik Road — along with other key locations such as Tapovan Bus Depot, Raje Sambhaji Stadium, Bytco Hospital in Nashik Road, Phalke Smarak, and open NMC space in Lekha Nagar.
The NMC has fixed the EV charging rate at ₹16.60 per unit. Each station has the capacity to charge two four-wheelers and six two-wheelers simultaneously. Officials stated that out of the ₹86 crore received under the NCAP, ₹10-12 crore is being allocated for setting up EV charging stations.
This initiative aims to reduce the city’s dependence on petrol and diesel vehicles while encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles. The NMC has also introduced a policy to procure only electric cars for civic officials and office-bearers moving forward.
