Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd has announced a strategic technology licensing partnership with Australian battery materials manufacturer Sicona to localize and commercialize Sicona’s next-generation SiCx anode technology in India. This collaboration aims to position India as a key player in the global clean-tech and battery manufacturing ecosystem.
Under the agreement, Himadri will receive exclusive rights to utilize, adapt, and sell Sicona’s proprietary silicon-carbon (SiCx) anode material in the Indian market. This material, when combined with traditional graphite in lithium-ion batteries, offers up to 20% higher energy density and 40% faster charging, making it highly suitable for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
Anurag Choudhary, Chairman and CEO of Himadri, said, “This partnership marks a turning point in advanced battery materials. By merging Sicona’s innovation with Himadri’s manufacturing scale and expertise, we aim to meet growing domestic demand and establish India as a global supplier of high-performance battery materials.”
The collaboration also includes comprehensive technical support from Sicona—spanning engineering, quality systems, and production protocols—to ensure a robust and scalable local deployment. Himadri plans to leverage its deep industry experience to accelerate market entry and commercialization of the technology.
This strategic alliance is expected to strengthen India’s clean energy supply chain and play a pivotal role in transforming the country into a global hub for sustainable battery technology.
