French sportswear giant Decathlon has unveiled an ambitious plan to scale up its annual sourcing from India to $3 billion by 2030, marking a significant push to deepen its manufacturing and retail presence in the country.

Currently, India contributes 8% to Decathlon’s global sourcing. The company aims to nearly double that share to 15% over the next five years, Decathlon India CEO Sankar Chatterjee announced during a press briefing on Tuesday.

“Our goal is to position India as a strategic hub for our global operations. From cricket equipment to technical textiles and fitness gear, India’s role in our supply chain is only set to grow,” Chatterjee said.

Decathlon sourced approximately $480 million worth of products from India last year. The expanded sourcing is expected to generate over 300,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, according to the company.

At an event marking 25 years of Decathlon’s operations in India, the company reaffirmed its commitment to manufacturing locally. Frederic Merlevede, Head of Decathlon Production, revealed that 70% of the products sold in Indian stores are currently made in the country — a figure the company aims to raise to 90% by 2030.

The retailer also has aggressive expansion plans on the retail front. From its existing 132 stores across 55 cities, Decathlon plans to reach over 90 cities by 2030. The company’s revenue from India operations stood at ₹4,100 crore last year, and it aims to grow this to ₹7,000 crore by the end of the decade.

“India is no longer just a sourcing base — it’s a critical innovation and production hub,” said Deepak D’Souza, Head of Decathlon India Production. “We are building the future of sport — made in India, for India and the world.”

The company also noted that a potential India-EU trade deal could further accelerate sourcing and exports from the region.

With its India head office in Bengaluru, Decathlon emphasized that future growth would be driven by category-led innovation, smarter production practices, and a stronger offline and omni-channel presence.
