The upcoming electric vehicle (EV) policy by the Delhi government is set to prioritize employment generation. The policy focuses on establishing a widespread charging infrastructure and battery swapping facilities across the city. According to government officials, at least 20,000 jobs will be created through various support services and infrastructure development projects linked to this initiative.
A senior official stated that the government is planning to develop a well-distributed EV charging network across Delhi. Currently, more than 50 locations in the city are equipped with EV charging infrastructure, providing over 4,646 charging points and 250 battery swapping stations for users.
"Range anxiety — the fear that an EV might run out of charge before reaching its destination — remains a key concern preventing people from switching to electric vehicles," the official said. "Addressing this concern will be a key focus of the new policy," he added.
It is worth noting that Delhi's current EV policy was first introduced in 2020 and has since been extended multiple times, with the latest extension granted for three months beyond April 15, 2025.
