The export initiative is the result of a strategic collaboration between Chennai-headquartered Farida Group and Taiwan-based CJ Group.

In a significant boost to India's growing role in global manufacturing, US-based footwear giant New Balance has commenced its first-ever exports from Tamil Nadu to international markets. The milestone shipment marks a key moment in the brand’s global supply chain expansion and underlines Tamil Nadu’s emergence as a manufacturing powerhouse.

The export initiative is the result of a strategic collaboration between Chennai-headquartered Farida Group and Taiwan-based CJ Group, and represents the first step in New Balance's broader vision for its India operations.

“This achievement showcases global confidence in Tamil Nadu's world-class manufacturing and reaffirms our place on the international stage,” said state investment promotion agency Guidance Tamil Nadu in a social media post.

The agency celebrated the development with the message: "New Balance, now Made in Tamil Nadu, exported to the World. Boston's iconic footwear brand New Balance has launched its first-ever exports from India — Made in Tamil Nadu."

New Balance also has plans to establish a major greenfield facility in the Tirupattur-Ambur corridor, a region already known for its strong presence in the leather and footwear industries. The new plant is expected to accelerate India’s capabilities in the sports and synthetic footwear segments, a rapidly growing market both domestically and globally.

Founded in Boston and led by President and CEO Joe Preston, New Balance is a privately-held, family-owned company with a global footprint. Valued at over $4 billion, the brand employs more than 7,500 people worldwide and operates over 400 company-owned retail stores, in addition to 3,400 third-party outlets.

The launch of exports from Tamil Nadu marks a new chapter for both New Balance and India’s position in the global footwear supply chain — with Tamil Nadu at the heart of it.
