In a move set to transform the rail travel experience across India, MakeMyTrip has partnered with food delivery giant Zomato to launch an on-train meal delivery service. The partnership allows passengers to order food from a network of over 40,000 restaurants across 130+ railway stations, delivering meals directly to their train seats.

Travellers booking their train tickets through the MakeMyTrip app will now have the option to access freshly prepared food via Zomato, alongside other travel tools such as real-time PNR updates, live train tracking, and seat availability forecasts.

“This collaboration marks a strategic step toward unlocking one of India’s fastest-growing consumption segments,” said Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Business Officer and CMO at MakeMyTrip. “Our new Food on Train Marketplace enhances customer convenience and adds more choice to their journey, further strengthening our position in the train booking segment.”

According to data from FY25, over 90,000 passengers use Indian Railways' e-catering services daily, reflecting a 66% year-on-year growth in demand. MakeMyTrip aims to tap into this rising trend, offering travellers a diverse menu including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and quick bites — all coordinated through its proprietary Live Train Status tool, which prompts passengers to order meals at optimal points during their journey.

Zomato, an authorised IRCTC partner for onboard catering, has already fulfilled more than 4.6 million orders across its railway network. The service allows users to pre-book meals up to seven days in advance using their PNR number, with options catering to various cuisines and budgets.

The partnership also aligns with MakeMyTrip’s broader strategy of enhancing the rail booking experience. The platform has introduced features such as seat locking, trip guarantees, free cancellation, connected travel planning, and station suggestions to make train travel more flexible and user-friendly.

With this initiative, MakeMyTrip is positioning itself at the intersection of travel and convenience, aiming to elevate the in-transit experience for millions of Indian train passengers.
