SPAR International, one of the largest voluntary food retail chains of the world has a momentous plan of expanding its base in India. It is looking forward to adding 25 SPAR Hypermarkets in New Delhi by the end of 2017. The Netherlands-based chain recently reported 2014 global retail sales of €31.9 billion from 12,300 stores in 40 countries.
SPAR re-entered the Indian market last August following the signing of a partnership agreement with Max Hypermarkets. The partnership has already successfully re-launched 16 SPAR Hypermarkets with an additional four openings planned for the remainder of 2015. It is anticipated that SPAR India will reach €300million turnover by 2019.
SPAR International unites and works in partnership with independent retailers by working together to share global scale and expertise to enhance the competiveness of its retail partners worldwide and build the SPAR brand internationally. Dr Gordon Campbell, Managing Director, SPAR International said, “Our success in India provides an ideal case study for the suitability of the SPAR model in emerging markets. Where other global brands have struggled to gain traction, SPAR’s expertise has benefitted the retailer, supplier and the consumer.”
