NASSCOM, an industry association for the IT-BPM sector in India, will take 25 Indian technology start-ups on a week-long trip to Silicon Valley in May.
The group will attend two major start-up conferences - Collision in Las Vegas and TiEcon in Santa Clara - which will give them an opportunity to listen to, and interact with, a host of technology entrepreneurs and investors in the US. They will visit Stanford University, Google, Intel and Walmart Labs’ campuses and they will also interact with the Indian diaspora.
The event, called InnoTrek 2014, is part of Nasscom's ambitious 10,000 Start-ups initiative that was launched this year with the goal of incubating, funding and supporting technology ventures. "We have shortlisted about 25 startups for the road trip to the Valley, which will give them first-hand access to global VCs, technology companies, and how the latter are building world-class products," said Rajat Tandon, senior director, 10,000 Startups.
The growing proficiency of the country's startups in building innovative products and solutions, and building a global clientele has, in turn, drawn significant attention from global corporations on the lookout to acquire groundbreaking intellectual property and skilled workers. The initiative also marks a return of sorts for Nasscom, the industry lobbying body for India's $100 billion-plus information technology (IT) and IT-enabled services industry, to focusing on the country's early-stage ventures.
