Nissan has showcased its latest electric vehicle line-up, featuring the next-generation Leaf and the all-new Micra. These EVs are set to launch in Europe later this year, with the Juke electric compact crossover scheduled for release in 2026.
The fifth-generation Micra marks a significant shift as it transitions from a combustion engine to a fully electric powertrain. It will be available with 40kWh and 52kWh battery pack options, with the larger battery offering over 400km of range on a single charge. While Nissan has not disclosed power and torque figures, the Micra EV will share its CMF-BEV platform with the Renault 5 and will be manufactured by Renault in France. The production version retains key design elements from the 2023 EV concept, including Nissan logo-shaped LED headlights, gloss-black cladding, and flat-design wheels.
The next-generation Leaf will be built on the CMF-EV platform, also used in the Nissan Ariya. This third-gen model, manufactured at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK, has a compact SUV-like stance with a focus on aerodynamics. The new design features a lower drag coefficient of 0.25, improving efficiency and range. While specific battery details were not revealed, Nissan’s Chief Planning Officer Francois Bailly confirmed that the new EV will offer over 598km of range.
Despite its latest advancements in EVs, Nissan does not plan to launch the all-electric Micra or new Leaf in India. Instead, the company is set to expand its internal combustion engine (ICE) portfolio with a Renault Triber-based MPV in 2025 and a Hyundai Creta rivaling SUV by 2026.
