Maruti Suzuki is set to kick off the much-awaited series production of its e-Vitara born-electric SUV tomorrow at Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. The landmark event will be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Japanese Ambassador Keiichi Ono, and other dignitaries.
The made-in-India e-Vitara will not only cater to the domestic market but will also be exported to over 100 countries, including Japan, Suzuki’s home market.
During the event, Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the TDS Li-Ion Battery Gujarat (TDSG) facility, a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki, where Li-ion battery cells and electrodes for strong hybrid vehicles will be manufactured.
Although initial production faced delays due to rare-earth material shortages, Maruti Suzuki is confident of meeting its target of 67,000 units for FY 2025-26, with nearly 59,000 units planned between October 2025 and March 2026. The plant has been ramped up to reach a peak production capacity of 440 vehicles per day.
The e-Vitara made its global debut in Europe last year and was showcased in India at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. Built on the 40PL dedicated EV platform co-developed with Toyota, the SUV will also have a Toyota sibling, the Urban Cruiser EV.
The born-electric SUV will be available with 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options, with the larger pack offered in a dual-motor AWD (AllGrip-e) configuration. Details on variants, features, and its official India launch timeline are expected to be announced in the coming months.
