Electric mobility startup e-Vidyut has officially commenced commercial operations of its three-wheeler retrofitment technology in Maharashtra. The company has received Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) certification for both two-stroke and four-stroke autorickshaw conversions, making it the only firm in India with approvals for both engine types.
On its very first day of launch, 30 autorickshaw registrations were recorded, reflecting strong market demand for retrofit solutions. e-Vidyut is one of only two companies in India to hold ARAI certification for three-wheeler retrofitment.
The company’s Electromotion RetroKit allows petrol and CNG autorickshaws to be converted into electric vehicles at a lower cost than purchasing new EV three-wheelers. The kit delivers a certified range of 132 km per charge, cuts daily fuel costs by up to 70%, and prevents nearly 1.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per vehicle annually.
Surya Pratap Singh, Co-Founder and CTO of e-Vidyut, said the Maharashtra launch is the first phase of the company’s broader expansion strategy, with a target of converting at least 50,000 autorickshaws in the next two years.
Backing the initiative, Lopa Mishra, General Partner at Pontaq, highlighted its potential to drive systemic change in urban transport by promoting financial inclusion, environmental sustainability, and accelerating India’s EV adoption goals.
e-Vidyut plans to expand operations to Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Gujarat, creating a nationwide retrofitting movement to support both driver livelihoods and environmental benefits.
Amid favorable government policies and EV incentives, e-Vidyut’s retrofit model offers an affordable and scalable pathway to accelerate India’s electric mobility transition.
