Sleep solutions major Duroflex has announced the appointment of Jacob George as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), marking a key leadership transition as the company sets its sights on future growth.
George succeeds Mathew Chandy, who steps down after a decade of transformative leadership. Chandy, under whose tenure Duroflex achieved significant expansion and innovation, will continue as Whole-time Director.
Jacob George brings over 10 years of experience at Duroflex, most recently serving as Whole-time Director – Growth & Strategy. Between 2018 and 2022, he led the brand’s entry into western India, oversaw critical manufacturing acquisitions in central India, and spearheaded the company’s digital transformation. He also played a central role in high-impact marketing partnerships, including Duroflex’s collaborations with the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“I am deeply honoured to take on this responsibility at such an exciting time,” said George. “With a strong financial and operational foundation, and a capable team, we are well-positioned to lead the next wave of innovation in India’s sleep solutions market.”
Outgoing CMD Mathew Chandy reflected on the company’s journey, “Leading Duroflex has been a privilege. We’ve achieved a CAGR of 21.97% over the last five years and built a future-ready organisation. Jacob has demonstrated the strategic vision and executional excellence needed to guide Duroflex into its next chapter.”
CEO Sridhar Balakrishnan added, “Jacob’s elevation reflects the company’s focus on youthful leadership and continuity. We share a strong vision for Duroflex’s future and are ready to build on our momentum.”
The leadership change comes amid continued innovation at Duroflex. The company recently launched Neuma, India’s first firmness-adjustable mattress with in-house (patent-pending) technology, and the Wave Twin Smart Bed, featuring zero-gravity mode. Other bestsellers include the Duropedic Back Magic Mattress, approved by the National Health Academy and endorsed by brand ambassador Virat Kohli.
To meet evolving consumer needs, Duroflex also refreshed its Energize Mattress Series, introducing Arctic Ice cooling fabric technology designed for Indian climates. Meanwhile, its D2C brand Sleepyhead continues to grow among younger audiences, with stylish, functional sleep and furniture solutions — and its pioneering Bed-in-a-Box format.
Today, Duroflex operates 73 company-owned outlets and partners with over 5,000 retail stores nationwide. With a growing omnichannel presence and a focus on innovation and customer-centricity, the company is positioning itself as a leader in India’s fast-evolving sleep and wellness space.
