Haldiram’s has temporarily closed its flagship Leicester Square restaurant in London, pausing operations just weeks after the outlet's high-profile debut due to planned electrical infrastructure work in the area.
The closure, which came into effect on July 21, is linked to scheduled works being carried out by UK Power Networks and does not reflect any operational or business-related issues, the company said.
The flagship outlet, inaugurated in June 2026 as Haldiram’s first full-service restaurant in the United Kingdom, quickly became a major attraction. Long queues outside the restaurant, particularly from members of the Indian diaspora eager to sample its signature chaats, sweets and traditional Indian snacks, went viral across social media platforms.
The company has clarified that the shutdown is purely precautionary and linked to essential electrical works in the surrounding area. It emphasized that the temporary closure is unrelated to the restaurant’s operations or business performance and confirmed that the outlet will reopen once the infrastructure upgrades are completed.
The London restaurant marks a significant milestone in Haldiram’s global expansion strategy as the brand strengthens its international dine-in presence. Founded in Bikaner in 1937, Haldiram’s has built a strong footprint across multiple international markets and is now accelerating the growth of its restaurant business beyond India.
Despite the brief interruption, the overwhelming response during the outlet’s opening weeks underscores strong consumer demand, positioning the restaurant for a robust return once operations resume.
