On September 12, 2025, Eicher Trucks and Buses delivered six electric tarmac buses to IndiGo Airlines at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. The delivery marks the company’s entry into the aviation ground support equipment segment.
The Eicher Skyline Pro-E 12m electric buses will be deployed to transport passengers between the terminal and aircraft. This delivery represents the first phase of a partnership between VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) – Eicher’s parent company – and IndiGo, India’s leading domestic airline.
Each bus offers 17 passenger seats plus standing space for 52 people. They are equipped with lithium-iron phosphate battery technology, CCS2 fast charging systems, full air suspension, power-assisted steering, and disc brakes on both axles.
Suresh Chettiar, Executive Vice President of VECV’s Bus Division, said, “We are proud to partner with IndiGo in advancing greener and sustainable ground operations.” Kempegowda Airport currently serves over 42 million passengers annually.
The initiative supports IndiGo’s environmental commitments, with the partnership also covering development of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
IndiGo operates over 400 aircraft and runs nearly 2,200 daily flights across 90 domestic and 40 international destinations. In FY 2025, the airline served more than 118 million passengers and was recognized as the “Best Airline in India and South Asia” by Skytrax.
VECV, a joint venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited, manufactures Eicher-branded commercial vehicles and distributes Volvo Trucks in India. The company continues to expand its electric vehicle offerings and charging infrastructure in partnership with institutional customers.
This deployment reflects a broader shift in India’s aviation sector toward clean energy solutions, as airports and airlines adopt sustainable measures to cut carbon emissions from ground operations.
