In a strategic move to capture price-sensitive consumers and younger demographics, food delivery giant Swiggy has rolled out a new standalone app, Toing, in Pune, as competition heats up in India’s food delivery space.
The launch comes shortly after rival Rapido introduced its own food delivery platform, Ownly, signaling growing momentum in the low-cost delivery segment.
Toing is designed to appeal to students, Gen Z consumers, and young professionals by offering affordable meals, curated restaurant selections, and a simplified user experience. A key value proposition of the app is pricing transparency: restaurant prices on Toing mirror offline rates, a notable contrast from Swiggy’s main app where users often pay additional charges such as packaging fees.
“Pune was chosen as the launchpad because it’s an educational and IT hub, yet remains underpenetrated in terms of food delivery,” said a person familiar with the development. “Unlike Bangalore, which is a saturated market, Pune offers room for experimentation and user acquisition.”
Lower Fees and No Packaging Charges
Toing emphasizes affordability with meals priced under ₹99 and delivery promises within 30 minutes. Items available include popular fast food options such as biryani, burgers, noodles, kebabs, ice creams, dosas, and pastries.
A comparison of orders placed from the same restaurant on both Toing and the main Swiggy app revealed a significant price difference. For example:
A ₹189 item on Toing amounted to ₹210 (inclusive of GST and platform fee), while the same order on Swiggy cost ₹238 due to higher GST, platform fees, and packaging charges.
For a sub-₹99 order, Toing’s total was ₹124, compared to ₹193 on Swiggy, where a ₹25 rain fee and higher delivery and packaging costs inflated the price.
Unlike Swiggy’s main app, Toing does not charge a restaurant packaging fee and keeps platform fees lower at ₹12 (compared to Swiggy’s ₹14.99). Restaurant GST is also generally lower on Toing, and it avoids additional charges like rain fees for smaller orders.
Part of Swiggy’s Broader Strategy
Swiggy already operates another standalone app, Snacc, which focuses on a micro-kitchen model with private-label offerings. However, Toing’s model is different — it partners with restaurants and primarily lists meals in the ₹99 to ₹149 range.
According to Play Store data, Toing has already crossed 500 downloads, and is available on both Android and iOS platforms.
While the broader food delivery market has seen sluggish growth, Swiggy reported a healthy uptick in the first quarter of FY26. The company’s gross order value rose to ₹8,086 crore in Q1FY26, up from ₹7,347 crore in Q4FY25.
Swiggy has not officially commented on the launch despite email queries.
