Popeyes® continued its strong growth trajectory in India during Q1 FY27, emerging as a key growth driver within Jubilant FoodWorks Limited’s portfolio. The brand reported a 97% year on year increase in revenue, while like for like growth remained above 40% for the third consecutive quarter. During the quarter, Popeyes® opened 10 new outlets, taking its overall store network to 88.
The brand recorded Average Daily Sales (ADS) of Rs 96,000 during Q1, putting it on par with established players in the category. In several existing markets, Popeyes® has also surpassed the Rs 100,000 ADS milestone.
Popeyes® made its India debut in January 2022 through an exclusive partnership with Jubilant FoodWorks, with its first restaurant opening in Koramangala, Bengaluru. Following its initial expansion across South India, the brand has broadened its presence to North and West India.
Vibhor Gupta, EVP and Chief Business Officer, Popeyes®, said, “Over the last four years, our ambition for Popeyes®️ in India has been clear: to build the most loved chicken brand in the country. The strong momentum we have built, with 97% year-on-year revenue growth and 40%+ like-for-like growth for the third consecutive quarter, gives us confidence in the strength of the brand, its growing consumer appeal and our on-ground execution. As we continue to scale, our focus remains the same – bring the distinctive Popeyes experience to more consumers across India.”
Sameer Khetarpal, CEO and MD, Jubilant FoodWorks Limited, said, “Popeyes is on fire in India—and we are just getting started. With 97% revenue growth, 40%+ LFL growth for the third consecutive quarter and strong store-level economics, the brand is proving that great food, bold flavours and great execution can create a powerful growth engine. We are stepping on the gas, with a clear ambition to build Popeyes into a ₹1,000 crore business over the next three to four years.”
Building on its global proposition, Popeyes® has tailored its menu and consumer engagement strategy to suit Indian tastes while maintaining its core product standards. The brand’s Cajun flavours from Louisiana, combined with a higher spice profile, align well with local preferences. Its chicken is fresh, marinated for 12 hours, and hand battered and breaded before being prepared.
To deepen its consumer connect, Popeyes® appointed actor Rashmika Mandanna as its first brand ambassador in India. A television commercial featuring the actor is currently running across Southern markets, helping enhance the brand’s visibility. The brand has also collaborated with Gen Z focused creators, including Kusha Kapila and Akash Gupta, to engage younger consumers through social media.
Popeyes® expanded its menu during the quarter with the launch of Bold Drinks in partnership with Sprite and Dip n’Drip Sauces. The new offerings add variety to the menu while complementing the brand’s core food proposition.
Looking ahead, Jubilant FoodWorks has identified 200 locations for Popeyes®’ future expansion. The company plans to add around 35 to 40 stores annually over the next few years, with growth focused on entering new markets as well as increasing penetration in existing ones.
