ZELIO Ebikes launches Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS e-rickshaws, priced at ₹1.45 lakh and ₹1.40 lakh, offering a 100 km range, advanced safety features, and eco-friendly mobility for urban commuters.

ZELIO Ebikes has expanded its product portfolio by launching its first e-rickshaw models, Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS, marking its entry into the shared mobility market. Priced at ₹1,45,000 and ₹1,40,000 respectively (ex-showroom), the models were first unveiled at the EV India Expo 2024 in New Delhi.

The Tanga Butterfly is built using mild steel (MS), while the Tanga SS features a stainless steel (SS) construction. These e-rickshaws are tailored to meet the needs of urban and semi-urban commuters, addressing the growing demand for affordable and eco-friendly last-mile connectivity solutions in India.

Both models are equipped with a 1200W motor and a 48/60V 135Ah Eastman battery, offering a top speed of 30 km/h and a range of 100 km per charge. Charging the battery takes approximately eight hours using an SMPS charger with voltage fluctuation protection.

The Tanga Butterfly will be available in Red, Grey, White, Sky Blue, and Military Green, while the Tanga SS will come in Blue, Red, Sea Blue, Parrot Green, and Grey.

Safety and performance are prioritized with advanced braking systems, including front lever-operated drum brakes, rear paddle-operated drum brakes, and a hand lever-operated parking brake. For ride quality, the models feature 43mm telescopic hydraulic shockers in the front and leaf spring shockers at the rear. Both e-rickshaws use TVS-made 3.75-12 mm tires on all wheels.

Built on a high-rigidity monocoque chassis, the e-rickshaws have a wheelbase of 2030 mm, a length of 2690 mm, a width of 1000 mm, a height of 1710 mm, and a ground clearance of 200 mm, making them suitable for urban and semi-urban roads.

Additional features include a wide front glass with a wiper, LED headlamps with DRL, LED cabin lighting, and LED indicators. Passenger and driver amenities include a digital meter, FM radio with dual speakers, heavy curtains, a bottle holder, a cash pocket, and central locking. Accessories like a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tool kit, and jack are also provided.

Financing and Dealership Expansion

To make purchasing easier, ZELIO has partnered with financing firms AKASHA and TRY Wheels. The company is also working on establishing a dedicated dealership network for the e-rickshaw segment.

He noted that the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS are designed with a focus on safety, performance, and affordability, ensuring they meet the needs of a wide range of customers.

ZELIO has gained significant traction in the Indian EV market, operating 273 dealerships and serving over 200,000 customers. The company aims to increase its dealership network to 400 by March 2025, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
