SWITCH Mobility Boosts Global EV Footprint with Mauritius Deal
SWITCH Mobility has dispatched the first 10 electric buses to Mauritius as part of a 100-bus gift from India. The initiative strengthens India-Mauritius ties and promotes sustainable public transport.

SWITCH Mobility, a part of the Hinduja Group and a global electric vehicle manufacturer, has sent the first batch of 10 electric buses to Mauritius as part of a larger order of 100 electric buses. These buses are being delivered to the National Transport Corporation (NTC) of Mauritius.

A ceremonial flag-off event was held to mark the occasion, attended by Dr. the Hon. Navin chandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of Mauritius; Hon. Osman Mahomed, Minister of Land Transport; Shri Anurag Srivastava, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, and other senior officials from both countries.

The 100 electric buses are being gifted by the Government of India to the Government of Mauritius, aiming to modernize and green the public transport system of the island nation.

The SWITCH EiV12 electric buses were manufactured at the company’s plant in Chennai. Each 12-meter-long bus can carry up to 45 passengers and complies with international standards for safety, performance, and durability. These buses are equipped with floor-mounted lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, a low center of gravity for enhanced stability, a Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS), and a dual-gun charging interface for faster and more efficient charging.

Additionally, the buses are integrated with SWITCH’s proprietary telematics system, SWITCH iON, which enables real-time vehicle monitoring, smart transport management, and fleet optimization.

The procurement was managed through an open tender by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a public sector company under India’s Ministry of Power. The buses will be operated by NTC, Mauritius' state-owned public transport agency.

RG Venkataraman, Chief Commercial Officer of SWITCH Mobility, stated, “This delivery is a major milestone in our global journey. The EiV12 reflects the synergy of global technology with Indian manufacturing excellence.”

This step supports Mauritius' environmental and urban development goals and strengthens India’s position as a key player in the global green mobility ecosystem.
