In a landmark announcement at the Rising NorthEast Investors Summit, Reliance Industries Ltd Chairman Mukesh Ambani unveiled plans to invest ₹75,000 crore over the next five years across the North-Eastern states, marking the conglomerate’s most significant push yet into the region.

Ambani outlined a wide-ranging development blueprint that includes setting up 350 compressed biogas plants, expanding telecom and retail services, scaling up clean energy projects, and bolstering healthcare and sports infrastructure. The initiative is expected to generate over 2.5 million direct and indirect jobs, aiming to touch the lives of the region’s 45 million residents.

“Reliance has invested ₹30,000 crore in the North-East over the past four decades. Now, we will more than double that in just the next five years,” Ambani said, addressing Chief Ministers and investors from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.

Major Investments and Initiatives include Telecom Expansion - Reliance Jio has already covered 90% of the region’s population with 5G connectivity and serves over 5 million subscribers. Ambani said this number will double within the year. He emphasized a vision to bring AI-powered solutions to schools, hospitals, homes, and businesses across the North-East, Clean Energy Push- The company will establish 350 integrated compressed biogas plants to convert organic waste into fuel. Additionally, it plans to significantly increase solar power generation capacity in the region.

Reliance Retail will also expand its procurement of local staples, fruits, and vegetables to support farmers, while also investing in factories for high-quality FMCG goods and promoting the artisan economy.

A 150-bed cancer hospital has been set up in Manipur. Reliance Foundation is also collaborating with Mizoram University on breast cancer genomics and has established a cutting-edge Molecular Diagnostics Lab in Guwahati, poised to be among India’s largest genome sequencing hubs.

The company plans to work with all eight states to set up Olympic Training Centres to nurture athletic talent from the region. Ambani praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in integrating the North-East into the heart of India’s development story.

“You have brought the North-East from the periphery to the centre of India’s developmental map,” Ambani said. “For Reliance, it is a privilege to fulfil the dreams of the region that has the fastest-growing economy and the youngest population in the country.”

This strategic investment signals Reliance’s long-term commitment to the North-East and aligns with the government’s broader vision of inclusive and sustainable national growth.
