The Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Manoj Kumar, shared the achievements of the financial year 2024-25 at KVIC’s headquarters in New Delhi. He announced that from April 1, 2025, wages for Khadi artisans would be increased by 20%. Currently, spinners receive ₹12.50 per hank, which will be raised to ₹15.
Kumar highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the "Khadi Revolution" has brought significant changes to artisans’ lives. Over the past 11 years, wages for Khadi artisans have increased by 275%. Additionally, during the Mahakumbh 2025 event in Prayagraj, a national-level Khadi and Village Industries exhibition recorded a historic sale of ₹12.02 crore.
To promote the Prime Minister’s vision of “Khadi for Fashion,” KVIC has organized grand Khadi fashion shows in major cities like Nagpur, Pune, Vadodara, Chennai, Jaipur, and Prayagraj. These efforts have helped Khadi establish itself as a modern apparel choice, especially among the youth.
Kumar also revealed that over the past decade, sales of Khadi and village industry products have grown fivefold to ₹1,55,000 crore, while Khadi fabric sales surged from ₹1,081 crore to ₹6,496 crore. During this period, 10.17 lakh new employment opportunities were created. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Khadi is no longer just a fabric but a foundation for rural India’s economic empowerment.
