Tamil Nadu is emerging as an important market for Flipkart, supported by its strong manufacturing ecosystem, technology talent and increasing digital adoption. Flipkart, India’s homegrown e-commerce marketplace, is expanding its presence across the state through its seller network, supply chain operations, technology infrastructure and programmes aimed at supporting businesses across key production clusters.
The company has nearly 70,000 sellers from Tamil Nadu on its platform, enabling businesses to reach customers across the country. The ecosystem spans the knitwear clusters of Tiruppur, textile hubs of Erode and Salem, Kancheepuram’s silk weaving communities and Thanjavur’s artisan businesses, helping local enterprises take products rooted in the state’s manufacturing strengths to a national customer base. Flipkart’s dedicated seller growth teams in Tiruppur, Erode, Salem and Chennai assist businesses with onboarding, cataloguing, logistics integration and capability building.
The expansion of digital commerce is also supporting employment across the state, with Flipkart’s ecosystem contributing to more than 1.3 lakh direct and indirect jobs. Its supply chain footprint in Tamil Nadu has expanded to over 25 lakh sq. ft., strengthening the infrastructure needed to enable faster deliveries and support growing online commerce.
Chennai is also an important technology hub for Flipkart Group. The company’s data centre in the city represents one of the Group’s largest technology infrastructure investments in India and supports critical group level operations. A significant portion of its power is sourced from renewable energy, while the state’s technology talent pool and renewable energy ecosystem provide further opportunities for scaling technology operations.
Digital commerce is also expanding into newer formats in Tamil Nadu. Flipkart Minutes has established more than 90 micro fulfilment centres across the state, reflecting the growing demand for quick commerce. More than 1,000 electric two wheelers, accounting for around a quarter of Flipkart’s delivery fleet in Tamil Nadu, are also being deployed, combining the expansion of digital commerce with the state’s growing focus on electric mobility and cleaner transportation.
“Tamil Nadu is an important part of Flipkart’s long-term growth story. The state brings together a strong manufacturing ecosystem, deep technology talent and a growing digital economy. Our work with sellers and MSMEs across the state, our technology infrastructure in Chennai and our expanding supply-chain network are helping connect Tamil Nadu’s businesses and communities with customers across India. We look forward to deepening our partnership with the Government of Tamil Nadu and contributing to the state’s next phase of digital, manufacturing and economic growth.” - Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive Officer, Flipkart Group.
Flipkart is further strengthening its engagement with Tamil Nadu’s MSMEs, artisans and producer communities through initiatives aimed at expanding access to national markets. Through its Samarth programme, the company is supporting local businesses and handicraft producers in reaching customers across India. The initiative is also partnering with TN-RISE to create market access opportunities for women entrepreneurs, startups and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in the state.
The company’s engagement with Tamil Nadu’s agricultural communities extends through Samarth Krishi, under which Flipkart sources fresh produce from FPOs in the state. The initiative helps connect farmer collectives with organised demand and broader markets.
Community development is another area of focus for the Flipkart Foundation in Tamil Nadu. Its initiatives include coastal clean-up programmes that have mobilised more than 2,100 volunteers and reached around 6.9 lakh people, along with programmes supporting vulnerable communities in southern Tamil Nadu.
Other businesses within the Flipkart Group are also contributing to the state’s digital commerce and tourism ecosystem. Myntra works with sellers and brands across Tamil Nadu, helping knitwear and apparel producers from Tiruppur and Erode reach consumers nationwide.
Cleartrip is supporting the state’s tourism economy by connecting travellers with destinations ranging from Chennai and the temple circuits of Madurai, Rameshwaram, Tiruchirappalli and Thanjavur to the hill stations of Ooty and Kodaikanal, as well as the business and leisure corridor covering Coimbatore and the Nilgiris.
Looking ahead, Flipkart plans to deepen its engagement with the Tamil Nadu government across technology infrastructure, digital commerce, sustainable logistics, financial inclusion and community development, with the aim of creating greater opportunities for businesses, farmers, artisans and communities across the state.
