The BMW Group has reported robust growth in the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment for calendar year 2024, achieving a total delivery of 426,594 fully electric vehicles worldwide. This marks a 13.5% year-on-year increase and underscores the German automaker’s steady progress in the EV domain.
Both BMW and MINI brands recorded double-digit growth in BEV sales, with BMW delivering 368,523 units (+11.6%) and MINI contributing 56,181 units (+24.3%). Rolls-Royce also posted significant gains, delivering 1,890 BEVs, reflecting an extraordinary growth of 479.6%. The BMW brand expanded deliveries across all drivetrain types in markets outside China, further cementing its global presence.
Commenting on the results, Jochen Goller, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, and Sales, stated: "The BMW Group is maintaining its growth trajectory for fully electric vehicles amid challenging market conditions. This is reflected in both the significant sales growth for fully electric vehicles and the clear rise in new BEV orders in Europe. We are confident we can maintain our BEV sales growth in 2025 with our strong and expanded product line-up."
In 2024, the BMW Group delivered a total of 2,450,804 vehicles globally, achieving its revised sales guidance despite challenges such as delivery stops linked to the Integrated Brake System (IBS) and subdued demand in China. Electrified vehicles (EVs), which include BEVs and plug-in hybrids, accounted for 24.2% of total sales, with 593,215 units sold. Fully-electric vehicles represented 17.4% of the overall sales.
The BMW brand delivered 2,200,177 vehicles (-2.3%) and retained its position as the global leader in its segment. Key markets such as Italy, France, and the UK registered double-digit growth, contributing to increased market share in Europe. In the US, the brand recorded sales growth, while in Germany, BMW achieved a rise in new BEV registrations despite a contracting market for fully electric vehicles.
The MINI brand, which revamped its product portfolio in 2023, sold 244,915 vehicles in 2024 (-17.1%). However, BEV sales nearly doubled in Q4 2024, with 29,698 fully electric units sold. Rolls-Royce delivered 5,712 vehicles (-5.3%), while its BEV segment saw unprecedented growth.
M GmbH, the performance division of BMW, set a new record with 206,582 units sold (+2.1%). BMW Motorrad, the two-wheeler division, also achieved a record year, delivering 210,408 motorcycles and scooters (+0.6%).
With a strong and diverse product portfolio across BEVs and other drivetrain technologies, the BMW Group remains optimistic about sustaining its growth momentum in the fully electric segment for 2025.
