Automotive Test Systems (ATS), a leading supplier of testing equipment, has partnered with Amrita University to inaugurate a state-of-the-art Electric Vehicle (EV) Test Lab at the university’s Coimbatore campus. The lab is an extension of the Amrita Automotive Research and Technology Centre (AARTC) and is dedicated to advancing research and testing in the EV sector.
The newly established facility includes a 48kW electric motor test bench, a battery test lab, and a simulation lab, aiming to foster industry-academia collaboration in electric vehicle technology. The lab also integrates Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems, enhancing its testing capabilities.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by key industry leaders, including Latha Chembrakalam (VP & Head, Technical Centre India, Continental Automotive), Ramadhas Arumugam Sakunthalai (Director, GARC), Rajesh D (VP, Volvo Group Trucks Technology), Bhaktha Keshavachar (CEO, Chara Technologies), and Ramanathan Srinivasan (MD, ATS). The event also featured a two-day workshop on Sustainable Mobility, bringing together experts from the industry and academia.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramanathan Srinivasan, MD, ATS, said, "AARTC has successfully completed a decade of operations, supporting industry and academia in various research domains, including powertrain, emission testing, RLDA vehicle dynamics, NVH, and ADAS. This collaboration is enabling the development of safer and more reliable automotive technologies."
The facility also houses a 160kW test bench and a chassis dynamometer, extensively used by the automotive industry for testing and developing key EV components, such as electric motors and motor controllers. This initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening India's EV ecosystem by promoting cutting-edge research and innovation in electric mobility.
