
Future Group, one of India’s retail pioneers is planning to expand its business via franchise route under the brand name Big Bazaar Direct (BBD). The company targets to appoint over 50,000 franchisees over next three years with an ambition to reach out to small towns of India. Under this scheme, franchisees will be able to sell Big Bazaar products to their customers over 3G Internet enabled tablet. Presently, about 350 franchisees are associated with this initiative. This model has been launched in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
The initial investment for a BBD set-up is Rs. 3lakh and the commission to the franchisees ranges from 3 per cent to 15 per cent depending upon the product category. Vivek Biyani, Director, Future Group said: “The current number of consumers associated with Big Bazaar is about 30 crore and through BBD model we wish to add another 30 crore. We wish to expand our franchisees to 50,000 in the next three years. We have made investments in technology and supply chain network.
