Highlighting the issue of food adulteration, the Food Safety Department of Delhi has filed an affidavit in city High Court against KFC, Sagar Ratna, Bikanervala for serving artificially coloured food, harmful for consumers’ health.
Reported a leading business daily, the food department had collected rice and other food samples from these three popular eateries and has filed a short affidavit before the bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and R S Endlaw stating that the samples of 'Rizo Rice' taken from KFC at Scindhiya House in Connaught Place, since January 2013 till October 2014, shows that it contained artificial colour.
Additionally, the affidavit said, the samples of fruit and vegetable chutney from Bikanervala restaurant at ITL Tower in Netaji Subhash Place were found to be substandard as it contains added colour.
"One sample of fruit and vegetable chutney was found to be of substandard and action against the offenders has been initiated," noted another affidavit, filed through Delhi government's standing counsel Zubeda Begum.
However, the Delhi Court is hearing a plea from the Food Department, seeking an immediate ban on the sale of fruits and vegetables containing artificial colours and harmful pesticides.
