Logistics major DTDC Express is setting its sights on a major business shift, with plans for e-commerce to contribute around 50% of its total revenue in the next few years. This move is driven by surging demand for quicker deliveries and the official launch of its new rapid commerce vertical, ‘Raftaar’, earlier this month.
Raftaar promises deliveries in just 4 to 6 hours, positioning DTDC in the fast-growing segment of time-sensitive logistics. As part of this push, the company plans to roll out 125 dark stores across the country over the next three quarters. DTDC currently operates 25 dark stores in seven cities.
“Rapid commerce fills the gap between instant delivery and cost-effective logistics,” said Abhishek Chakraborty, Executive Director and CEO of DTDC Express. “With Raftaar, we aim to serve both metros and tier-2/3 cities without brands needing massive capital investment.”
The company has earmarked ₹100 crore in Capex for FY26, matching last year’s investment. A significant portion—over 55%—will go towards technology, including AI, machine learning, and automation, as DTDC accelerates its digital transformation.
Currently, 16% of DTDC’s revenue comes from domestic e-commerce and 21% from international e-commerce. The remaining 63% is from its traditional express parcel and document delivery business. Within 2–3 years, the company expects e-commerce and international commerce to make up roughly 50% of its business.
This growth aligns with DTDC’s Vision 2030, which outlines long-term goals for diversification and scaling up across logistics verticals. A recent whitepaper by DTDC and BCG, released on the company’s 35th Foundation Day, estimates India’s same-day delivery market will grow 20–25% CAGR, reaching $15 billion by 2030.
“The express industry is expected to grow at 2–2.5 times India’s GDP rate,” Chakraborty noted. “Faster commerce is growing over 45% annually—more than double the pace projected for China.” With consumer expectations rapidly evolving, DTDC’s investment in rapid commerce and tech innovation positions it to lead in India’s high-speed logistics future.
