Champions of the Galaxy’ Becomes the First Cricket-Inspired Sci-Fi IP for Global Youth Audiences

In a groundbreaking move for global sports entertainment, the Animae Caribe Festival has officially greenlit Champions of the Galaxy, a $5 million animated franchise that transforms cricket’s 2.5-billion-strong fanbase into a global sci-fi universe spanning broadcast, gaming, music and merchandise.

The franchise is headlined by cricket superstar and cultural icon Dwayne “DJ” Bravo, who joins as Executive Producer and Creative Consultant, becoming the charismatic face of a first-of-its-kind animated sports IP. Bravo’s dual identity — World Cup-winning all-rounder and music sensation (over 100M streams for his hit anthem Champion) — forms the creative spine of the series, designed to unify cricket fans across India, the Caribbean, the UK, Pakistan and Australia.

“Growing up, cricket was not just a sport. It was a way to dream,” said Bravo. “This project is about showing our kids that their stories and their voices matter — through animation, music and gaming.”

A First-Ever Indo-Caribbean Animation Alliance

This ambitious co-production marks a historic creative partnership between Animae Caribe House and PowerKids Entertainment, one of Asia’s fastest-growing global animation studios with a distribution footprint across 160+ countries and collaborations with streaming majors including Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

“Cricket is one of the most-watched sports worldwide, and this series captures that spirit of courage, imagination and heroism,” said Manoj Mishra, CEO, PowerKids Entertainment. “We are excited to take this story to global audiences and redefine how animated sports adventures are experienced.”

The partnership builds a production pipeline capable of servicing Western broadcasters and the fast-rising South Asian OTT market—perfectly aligned with cricket’s cultural bridge between the two regions.

A Franchise Built for the New Cricket Economy

With cricket’s explosive global monetization—IPL-driven fandom, streaming rights battles, franchise leagues, and youth-first consumption—Champions of the Galaxy is engineered as a multi-platform IP from day one:

  • OTT & broadcast licensing across cricket-heavy markets
  • Mobile gaming + e-sports integration
  • Merchandising for youth fans buying IPL jerseys & collectibles
  • Music-driven brand partnerships
  • Live events & digital fandom ecosystems

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the Animae Caribe Festival, now in its 24th year, a cornerstone platform for Caribbean animation, digital media and creative technology — committed to developing regional talent and building a sustainable global creative economy.

This is the first animated franchise to treat cricket as global popular culture—not just a sport. Powered by Caribbean creativity, Indian production muscle, and cricket’s unstoppable global momentum, Champions of the Galaxy signals a new era of sports-driven youth entertainment IP from the Global South.
