With its focus on simplicity of menu and flexibility to franchise partners, Subway has continued to be among the winners of Franchise 100 list 2020, recently published by The Franchising World magazine. The company grew its franchise footprint substantially over the last three years which substantiates its aggressive franchise focus.
The company has become the world’s most ubiquitous restaurant chain with over 42,000 sandwich stores across 110 countries, all of which work on franchise model. In India, the Subway network has observed 32.6% growth in the last three years; it stood at over 663 outlets by 2019-end.
“The brand has on an average been adding more than 60 restaurants annually through its franchisees in the country,” shares Ranjit Talwar, Regional Director, Subway India.
It operates with a nimble team of managerial executives and in turn gives franchisees large scope of discretion in terms of the number of employees they may hire depending on the scope of operations, location and footfall at the store.
There are number of Subway franchisees in India who began their journey with the brand starting off with a single restaurant and are multi-unit owners today.
Subway has found success in simplicity, focusing on its core carrier: fresh bread and the oven. The brand does evolve its menu, but it doesn’t detract from the bread to the seemingly tempting food trends like burgers, fries or burritos.
Moving ahead, the company is now looking to ramp up its footprint to cross the 700 restaurants-mark by 2020-end.
