The Union Government has allocated Rs 5,000 crore for the growth of Department of AYUSH and launched an independent National AYUSH Mission, targeting capacity building for the sector.

Confirming the news, Union Minister of State for AYUSH, Sripad Naik told mediapersons at the sidelines of a function recently, that the ministry is planning to observe Ayurveda Day as well.

"For creating awareness about Ayurveda, the Ministry is considering to observe Ayurveda Day," noted Naik.
He further said, "We have launched independent National AYUSH Mission aiming capacity building for the sector. The mission will ensure creation of a centre of excellence for Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy independently.”

Reportedly, India and China uses largest number of medicinal plants across the globe. However, the Traditional Chinese medicines have seen easy acceptance in the world, while the Indian Ayurvedic medicines, which have seen a 25 per cent rise in its sales in the last decade, is yet to gain global acceptance.

To boost the same, Indian government will attempt to find out reasons and aimed to address the issues soon, assured Naik.

Significantly, unlike other medicinal systems, India’s ancient medical practice - Ayurveda advocates restoration of health and prevention of disease more than the cure.

Being practised across the country, Ayurveda is quite popular among even tribal and remote areas of India, where other modes of therapies are not readily available.

Though, it does not have an elaborate organised structure, still it plays a major role in meeting the healthcare needs of a large section of the country.
