Nearly 39% passengers give their thumbs up to desi snacks and sweets while travelling, report

Nobody could deny the fact even today that Indians rely on desi snacks and sweets while travelling.

TravelKhana.com, the first India-wide marketplace enabling food ordering for travelers in transit has projected data highlighting that apart from proper meals, nearly 39 per cent railway travelers prefer to order snacks, light meals and sweets during their journey.

“An essential part of enjoying a journey by train is getting indulgent with snacks and light meals, and this is the trend that our data seems to have highlighted. Although we give access to meal options from an elaborate menu from restaurants across the country, our data shows that a significant number of passengers’ bookings are primarily made for light meals and sweets,” shared Pushpinder Singh, CEO & Co-founder, TravelKhana. “This makes it quite evident that Indians love to relish their desi snacks and sweet meats in the company of friends and family and reserve a special fondness for Gulab Jamuns, Rasmalais, Samosas, Kachoris and Kaju Barfi,” added Singh.

TravelKhana, which has integrated its services with IRCTC website, makes it possible for travelers to get access to lip-smacking fare prepared by the various restaurants selected and verified by TravelKhana.com personnel.

The recent data released by the online food-ordering marketplace records 8 per cent sales in Rasmalai & 4 per cent sales in Jaljira Drink from Itarsi Junction, 7 per cent sales in Gulab Jamun & 2 per cent sales in Kaju Barfi from Ganguram in Rourkela.

The rest of the items in demand include 4 per cent sales in Khowe Ki Jalebi & 3 per cent sales in Rabri from Jabalpur, 3 per cent sales in Lassi & Dal Kachori each from Sawai Madhopur Junction, 3 per cent sales in Samosa from Katni and 2 per cent sales of Ghosh sweets Rasogulla from Katihar.

Railway Passengers are required to simply click on the “Food on Track” tab on the IRCTC website while booking their train tickets and select the meal of their choice. This assures them of having delicious food delivered by TravelKhana right at their berth at the station which they choose during the booking process.
