In an exclusive interview with Restaurant India, Sagar Jagdish Daryani, Co-founder at Wow! Momo shares that innovation is the vitamin of his success.
Sagar completed his Graduation from St. Xaviers Kolkata. Being a brand originated out of Kolkata & with over 90 outlets across eight cities, i.e Kolkata, Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Pune Chennai & Kochi, today Wow! Momo is the country's largest chain of Momos both in terms of volumes & turnovers. Sagar & his team have literally "played with momos" & now their menu caters to over 15 different flavors of momos available in steamed, fried & pan fried variants. They have smartly innovated to create sizzler momos, mogurg and tandoori momos. Sagar is an enthusiast who is highly passionate about brand building. He dreams of an India where employment is 100%. He has mentored Start-ups in F&B space and few of them are already in operationally profitable mode.
How has your experience been so far?
Food has become an entertainment in India as people spend good quality time gossiping about anything over food. This entertainment has made the experience. For example, today watching a movie is not just about watching it but experiencing the whole thing and keeping memories with you. The same happen with food these days. Whether you get good experience or a bad one, ultimately it totally depends up on entertainment and how you get along with people. At last entertainment only brings you back to the restaurant because customer is bound to come back at your place if he/ she is entertained.
What experience are you bringing to food sector?
We play with momos. We started with steamed momos but now expanded to various delicacies in that particular segment i.e., mango and chocolate momos in dessert, rice and noodle momos in sizzlers and etc. Thus, we have converted a snack into a meal. This is another kind of experience which anyone has ever done with momos. Making food fun has been our mantra.
Have you done any innovation with your momos recently?
Vitamin to our success is innovation. We keep innovating according to the trend. For example, Mango is the king of fruits and Indians go crazy over momos. For keeping that zeal alive, we came up with mango momos in monsoon to cherish everybody’s favorite mango season. And we are coming up with momo roll stuffed with steamed momos in December. Also we are planning to launch Wow Thunders which is a brand inside a brand. There will be mocktails in Wow Thunders i.e., virgin mohito, orange mint mohito, green apple, pepsi et cetra. We believe that we have mastered the class of food and now it’s time to roll beverage market.
