Govt to engulf Culinary Tourism globally in all Tourism promotion

Indian culinary has been known globally but unfortunately is not well advertised and promoted. Speaking at the annual chef awards organised by Indian culinary forum, the association voiced the poor governmental support in promoting and marketing the cuisine in the overall marketing and promotional activities of Ministry of Tourism & Culture in the overseas markets.

At a time when global cuisine in India is spreading like never before, the association asked for the government support to make Samosa the burger of the world, Parathe the pizzas of the world, mint chatni as the mayonnaise of the world promoting India’s rich and diverse culinary culture in the global diaspora.

“There is need for documenting and authenticating the Indian cuisines before marketing it to the world. Tourism Ministry should promote culinary culture and traditions of India as we promote our forts, palaces and monuments. He also proposed sending top chefs of India as guest instructors to culinary institutes abroad to promote Indian food,” said Anil Bhandari, Chairman, Chef Awards Organising Committee.

Adding to the same lines, Chef Davinder Kumar, President, ICF shared, “the objective of the event is to “patronise authentic “food culture and to motivate chefs to be innovative and creative, motivate young people to join the profession.”

While addressing to the chef fraternity and the culinary audience, the Chief Guest on the occasion, Vinod Zutshi, Secretary-Tourism, Government of India assured all support to the Chef community to promote and market Indian food as part of the overall marketing and branding activities of Incredible India.

“We will incorporate Culinary Tourism in the overall Tourism promotion and marketing strategy. The government is also keen to commence the Indian Culinary Institute from the next academic year itself. As construction of the proposed institutes in Tirupati and Noida will take time, starting the activities of the campus from a make-shift campus in these locations will be explored,” added Zutshi.

The Annual Chef Awards recognized excellence in culinary arts. 10 different awards were given to winners in the trade tests held as part of the International Chef Day celebrations. Besides that the Special Jury Awards were given to senior chefs in the industry considering their contributions to the trade and industry. While SSH Rehman (ITC Group) was bestowed with the ‘Food Legend’ award, veteran Chef Vincent Joseph was presented the ‘Life Time Achievement’ award by the jury.
