In conversation with Restaurant India, Mehul Mittra, a young entrepreneur of Mississippi Music CafÃ© shares his idea to open a music cafÃ©.
Ahmadabad based Mississippi is a new concept cafe with its focus on opening a music cafe. Known for amazing live performances, delicious food, music never stops at Mississippi.
How did the idea of a music café popped up into your mind?
I was always so passionate about music and food. I wanted to promote the culture of western music in thecity by providing a platform to the amazing local talent that we have and fun and entertainment to its people.
What sets your café apart from the rest of the restaurants?
Our Cafe is based on a culture not a theme. The culture of enjoying comfort food which is healthy at the same time along with some awesome genres of music such as Rock & Roll, Jazz & Blues, Country and a bit of Hindi Sufi to name a few. It's not just cafe, it’s an experience.
What are the different types of cuisines served at your restaurant?
Blues soup, Jazz salad station, pre-plated salads, weight watchers salad, reggae sandwiches, weight watchers sandwich, club 27 bagels, rock and roll burgers, classic value meals, lounge sides, chill out desserts, electronic fresh juices, coffee and beverages are served at our restaurants.
What were some of the challenges and lessons learnt as an entrepreneur?
I wish I could say it had been an easy ride but what you need is passion and will to succeed. We’ve struggled to achieve what we are today but what stays with us is the passion for food, delivering quality and value to the guest. As a young entrepreneur it has helped me learn how the industry functions and how units are set up. The main challenge was to balance passion with commercials and to manage four aspects simultaneously and effectively in symbiotically manner- Idea/Concept, Financials/Branding/marketing and commercials execution.
What are your expansion plans for Mississippi Music Café?
We are on expansion mode. Our first music café was established in Ahmadabad in September 2015 and has been a huge success. This has given us the confidence and now our plan is to have around multiple cafés and restaurants under the same brand in the next few years.
