CHARGING STATIONS: POWERING UP INDIAN EV MARKET

The idea which took shape during a motorcycle trip to Himalayas a year back is revolutionizing the electric vehicle segment with a wide range of charging station solutions and franchise expansion plans across the country

CHARGING STATIONS: POWERING UP INDIAN EV MARKET

The electric vehicles’ (EV) market in India has taken a huge leap forward with government initiatives like Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME II) scheme. Electric cars are expected to grab 6% share of the new car sales by 2030. Four-wheeler EVs will thereafter touch 28% by 2040, and 2-3 wheelers will further grow making India the fourth-largest passenger EV market in the world. An early mover in this segment, Charjet E-Mobility has aggressive plans for establishing EV charging stations at strategic locations like malls, corporate offices, colleges, petrol pumps, gated communities, car showrooms, government hospitals and offices, and restaurants across the country.

Founded with the objective to deliver smart, durable and energy-efficient EV chargers across the Asian market, Charjet is the brainchild of three founders: UB Kuldeep, Uday Kaleru and Deepti Koganti. “The EV space was a nascent concept when we started, which gave us an opportunity to do a lot of research to develop our product line which is user-friendly and multi-protocol accessible,” shares Koganti.

CHARJET USP

The company offers four categories of charging solutions:

>> Domestic charging for premises like independent homes, apartment complexes and gated communities.

>>Public charging solutions offer both slow and fast charging stations for strategic public locations catering to all makes and models of EVs present in the Asian market. It also offers battery-swapping stations for two and three wheelers.

>>Fleet operator solutions offer customized chargers with optimum solutions for vehicle and battery management systems.

>>EV manufacturer solutions offer development and manufacturing of OEM products.

The company offers service engineers availability within 5 km range of every charging station, making Charjet the largest network in India. Focusing on the motto of best-in-class user experience, the brand offers an integrated cloud-based troubleshooting system, with 24 x 7 customer care assistance. Also, the brand provides an easy-to-use mobile application to assist EV owners to locate the nearest Charjet charging station.

FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY

Charjet E-Mobility business model is designed to provide a secondary source of income to individuals or companies. “Charjet is first of its kind company in India to offer a franchise model for EV charging stations. Our business model ensures someone already in business to set up a secondary source of income with minimal involvement in the operations,” adds Koganti.

Charjet offers three franchise models:

Gold model: This requires an investment of Rs 8 lakhs and over 150 sq. feet area.

Subsidy model: This requires an investment of Rs 35 lakhs and around 1,000 sq. feet area.

Platinum model: This requires investment of Rs 60 lakhs and 1,500 sq. feet area.

The company offers franchise in franchise-owned company- operated (FOCO) model and claims typical breakeven period of a franchise in 24-36 months. “The FOCO model ensures that the customers, as well as the franchise have a win-win situation. Under the concept, an investor will participate in minimal business activity,” shares Koganti.

Charjet will take care of the activities from installation to service backup, annual maintenance, network operations, staff training of the franchise.

EXPANSION STRATEGY

The company has started with six outlets in Hyderabad and will target metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune. The company plans to be the largest charging station network in India with 2,000+ charging stations, located in a 2-3 km range from one another to ensure better customer access.
