INKING A GROWTH STORY

It’s rightly said that nothing is permanent in this world, but humans cannot care less. They have found ways to defy everything and that’s how we have come to be associated with the art of tattooing. La Nina Tattoos is a name riding high on this upcoming trend. By Tanya Krishna

INKING A GROWTH STORY

La Nina Tattoos was founded by Jagruti Parmar in 2003 and since then has come a long way with Parmar’s deep knowledge in various art forms and about beauty and skin care. “We offer services like permanent tattoo, temporary tattoo, tattoo editing, full body piercing, tattoo training and also advance services like permanent makeup for lip or eyebrow correction and beautification, medical tattoo for vitiligo patients or any skin discoloration. The charges vary based on the design, size and details of the tattoo. However, the basic price of a permanent tattoo is Rs 500 per square inch and that of temporary is Rs100,” informs Parmar. La Nina Tattoos also runs its own tattoo academy.

While tattooing was prevalent in India since ages, today it has gained a lot of attention with new and trending design options. Parmar says, “From the traditional designs and tribal and name tattoos, people are turning towards colorful and portrait tattoos. Taking clients’ requirement and making custom designs is what the tattoo industry is all about right now.” However, the road hasn’t always been smooth. For one thing, it was tough to be a lady tattoo artist. However, the support of her family and the pride of being a successful business owner is what has got her through. “I chose the name La Nina Tattoos because it means ‘the girl who tattoos’. That was then; now the industry has opened up to new possibilities and many female artists have better chances,” she informs.

While tattooing is the new trend and many studios are offering creative designs to enthusiasts, the only problem standing in the way is hygiene which is being ignored by a majority of small studios. And Parmar totally defies it. “We always take care of hygiene; it is very important to keep everything clean. We use disposable needles as well as disposable machine parts which are thrown away after every single tattoo. Our artists are personally trained to follow strict rules to ensure safety in every tattoo,” Parmar maintains.

ON A MISSION TO GROW

La Nina Tattoos owns a studio near Vastrapur Lake in Ahmedabad and is looking forward to reach out to cities which do not have proper tattoo studios. Parmar feels that “the blank canvas has a great scope for expansion”. “We keep up with the marketing trends and almost one-third of our revenue goes into marketing which includes social media marketing, tabloid advertisements and billboards. For expansion, I am looking for people who want to invest or are passionate enough to get into this industry,” she informs.
