BOOSTING THE WELLNESS OF THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR

PREETHA REDDY, MD, Apollo Hospitals shares insights about how she has introduced pioneering models in the group’s healthcare business

BOOSTING THE WELLNESS OF THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR

Preetha Reddy is one amongst these stalwarts who has contributed immensely to healthcare development in the country. She is one of the pioneer business women in India’s corporatized healthcare industry.
Inspired by her father, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, she joined Apollo Hospitals as Joint MD in 1989 and only five years later, she was promoted as MD and placed in charge of planning, designing and funding the group’s new projects. “Post joining the business, I along with my team worked hard to increase the bed count from 300 during 1990-1991 to 6,684 presently,” informs Reddy.

THE EXPANSION DRIVE

While many consider the concept of franchising in healthcare a bit odd, for Reddy, it makes eminent sense. “As a business model, franchising enables rapid market expansion while conserving capital and it exploits entrepreneurial potential offered by the individual franchisees. The trend, as expected, has caught on in India and enjoys an 85% success rate in the country. All the knowledge and expertise required to successfully run the business is ensured from our end. You will have access to our years of healthcare domain knowledge and expertise. Being part of a large network of Apollo Hospitals spread across the Asian sub-continent, you will be able to offer world-class services without spending a fortune,” Reddy points out.
