FOODIE PROFITS FROM FOOD FAD

For Ashish Dhall, North Indian and Mughlai cuisine has always been a passion. Interestingly, he has now turned this into a successful business venture in the form of Tandoori Trumpets, writes Payal Gulati

FOODIE PROFITS FROM FOOD FAD

Public figure Arthur Buddhold once said, “Follow your passion and success will follow you.” That certainly holds true in the case of many an entrepreneur. For instance, one-and-half years ago Ashish Dhall did exactly the same when he turned his passion for cooking into an entrepreneurial reality by opening Tandoori Trumpets – a chain of casual dining restaurants specialising in North Indian and Mughlai cuisines. “It was started in 2017. I was missing the ‘oomph’ factor in the food available outside and wanted to introduce that so that eating out would turn into a real pleasure. That’s when the journey of Tandoori Trumpets started,” he says. Within a short span of time, the company has established 10 restaurants in Delhi-NCR.

An increasing number of Indians are slowly warming up to the idea of eating out, and not just for special occasions. Thanks to growing disposable income, urbanisation and technology’s influence on consumption habits, the food and beverage industry is expected to reach USD 46 billion within two years in India from USD 26 billion in 2017. “India has a vast population and of course the food and beverage market will always grow,” Dhall says.

Success Recipes

Tandoori Trumpets has a vast variety on its menu, offering North Indian and Mughlai dishes. “The food is prepared using local spices and techniques from the city of Gurugram and the chefs too hail from Gurugram. This allows people to taste the authentic flavours of the dishes served,” Dhall shares. Its signature dishes are Tandoori Chicken, Mutton Seekh, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Seekh Kebab, Murg Malai Tikka, Afghani Chicken, Tandoori Mushroom, etc. “Customers love Tandoori Chicken the most from our non-vegetarian menu while from its Paneer Tikka that’s a hot favourite from the vegetarian dishes,” Dhall says.

What also makes Tandoori Trumpets a hit is its affordability. The ‘price conscious’ menu caters to people of all groups and segments. “We are primarily targeting the middle-class so that they can have luxurious food at economical prices. The pricing has been kept keeping in mind the needs of all the classes and it’s for the masses,” Dhall shares. The average bill size is Rs 300-400 for serving two people.

Going Online

With its free home delivery service, Tandoori Trumpets becomes the perfect hosting and dining choice for family and friends’ reunions, bringing people closer with one appetizing dish after another. “There is an increasing trend now of people ordering online to accommodate their hectic schedules as also avoid the traffic during peak hours and other hassles. The online platform has been working well and we hope to post tremendous growth in the future,” he says.

Franchise Foray

The company has recently entered into franchising for faster expansion. Talking about the training of franchise partners, Dhall says, “Our experienced chef trains the staff and give them regular classes. We can send the full team of ours or semi-cooked materials to our franchisees in Delhi or NCR depending on the contract we have with them apart from using our name.” With the right franchise partners the company is planning to expand pan-India.
