‘Diversification is our USP’

Ram Gopal Chaudhary never knew that his idea of selling recycled jute bags can make him step up the ladder of success. In an interview, he talks about his journey and business

What product RG Plasto offers?

We manufacture, sell and supply PP/HDPE waterproof and eco-friendly woven sacks. These bags are used for packing cements, rice, seeds, fertilizers, rubbers, steel and iron filings, paper, sugar, woven fabric, food packaging bags, FIBC bags and many more. Over the years, we have learned the art of effective and productive manufacturing process, which is enabling us to quote best quality and price.

What is the USP of your brand?

Our products are custom de­signed for industries, majorly for cement, gypsum, lime, sand, food grains, rice, sugar, salt, flour, pulses, animal feeds, seeds, sponge iron, chemicals, PVC compounds, masterbatches, fertilizers, polymer granule, geo textiles, FIBC, agro textiles, tarpau­lins, grow bags, courier/post bags, shopping bags, wrapping fabrics, retail & self custom­ization. Diversification is our USP.

What is the brand’s strategy that has made it stand tall?

We have adapted the strategy of nature, which is first learn­ing and then adapting. We initially focused on small seg­ments, build customer relation­ship sector wise, targeting one segment at a time and slowly spreading to other segment. A brand can be established based on the goodwill of a consumer.

Besides you, whom do you give the credit for your business growth?

My social peers suggested and forced me to manufacture a product rather than selling an old one. Hence, packing was my expertise; I started off with a small unit manufactur­ing PP/HDPE woven sacks in 2004. Since then, I have been doing my business to enjoy, and still focus much on social networking. I had send my son abroad for higher studies and restricted him from doing other services, so that he joins this business and can sell this product worldwide. Another reason for me being happy was my team who supported me on all stages of my life. Even today, I don’t fix their salaries, they take it according to their requirement.

What is the current mar­ket size and potential of this industry?

The market size is cat­egorised with cement being market leader in our category business followed by rice, sugar, fertilizer, seeds, animal feeds, and all other categories. Being an industrial packing material this industry has not been exploited to its creativity. There are many new sec­tors, especially in the retail segment, where there is an enormous potential.

What kind of growth do you see for your brand in the next five years?

In the next five years, I see the presence of our brand in every region of our country. Whenever a person thinks of packing, Brand RG should strike in their mind.

What business model do you operate and how has it helped the brand in scalability?

We purchase polymer granules and then convert it to a tape. Then we weave the tape and form a fabric which is then designed based on the consumer’s choice and then provided to them. Our precision and dedication to under­stand and deliver our consumer what they need help us in scaling up the business.
