With the job scenario shifting from metros to smaller towns, creating major job opportunities in these areas, Esource India launched country's first private employment exchange for youth from smaller towns and cities. Archana Nafdey, Director, Esource, tells Beny Sachdeva more about her business and its future course.

What led to the inception of Esource India?

Esource India's parent company, ESMS India, has a very close and long association with a large number of corporate houses. It offers security services to the large industrial units of these companies, spread across India. The recruitment industry is not very mature in the smaller cities. Large recruitment companies don't have a presence there and online portals don't really cater to that geography either. We identified this gap and thought about participating in the growth of the country by conceptualising Esource India.

What kind of services do you provide?

Our business model has two distinct parts to it. One is the online database that is part of the portal. This, though called database, is extremely different from other online recruitment portals that exist today, as each candidate has a profile page, which through video resumes, psychometric tests and a host of other facilities provides a much more in-depth picture of the candidate.  In addition, we also have a Placement Assistance Cell (PAC) that assists clients in carrying out placement activities. A platinum package with Esource India will provide the human touch and all the convenience of a good placement consulting company.

What inspired you to expand your business through franchising?

Statistics showcase that there are about 40 million people working in the organised sector in the country, with hundreds of thousands being added every year. The largest database of resumes is, however, only seven million strong. There are about 30 million people who are not part of any database because they don't believe this medium can find them jobs. One effective way of reaching out to these millions of people is through a vast network of franchisees across the country and that is what we are doing.

How many exclusive and franchised centres do you have presently?

Our model does not call for us to have any exclusive outlets. In fact, we don't need any outlets. Our franchisees do not need any space and can work from home, a cyber café or a dhaba. We are currently on track to meet our target of achieving 1,000 franchisees by March 2011. Such has been the response that we would probably add another 5,000 franchisees by the next year. We sincerely believe that there is tremendous human resource potential in the small towns and through Esource we want to unleash that potential.

What are your requisites for opening a franchise centre?

The Esource franchise provides a unique offer, where only Rs 30,000 is  required as franchisee fee and that is valid for a lifetime. There is no investment required for any infrastructure and it is the selling skills of the franchisee that would matter the most.

What kind of training &  support you provide your franchisees?

Our franchisees get complete sales support, where our sales executives visit prospective clients along with the franchisees and help franchisees convert them into clients.
