Maishaa, the first official bed linen brand to be associated with The New York Fashion Week is gearing up to expand its retail presence with plans to have a total of 25 exclusive stores. Arun Garg in an interview with TFW talks about the brand and its expansion plans.
Briefly introduce us about your company.
Maishaa is a brand of luxury home textiles, ideal for the modern lifestyle, The company’s humble origin began in the summer of 1997 in the form of AK Enterprises, a firm that was started by me and my brother Kamal Garg. The core philosophy of Maishaa is to create products for enhancing the passion of each individual. All our collections are hence designed by a pool of international designers and manufactured with international standards. We offer a complete solution for home furnishings with a complete range of bed linen and furnishing fabrics.
What motivated you to opt for exclusive retail format? What is the present size of the home textile industry?
Retail has developed to be the fastest growing industries in India during last five years, and textile market in India is not yet organised. So, we took the opportunity to organise this category of business, especially home furnishings. When you sell your products through retail outlets, customers believe you and your products more.
Who is the target consumer for Maishaa?
We target A+ category consumers, who love to live their life different from others. Under Maishaa we sell luxury furnishing for luxury living.
What kind of franchise opportunity do you offer?
We are coming up with franchise stores across India. Our franchisees will get the brand name of Maishaa by Pasaya; we will decorate their space in international format and we will take some amount from the franchisee as a security deposit.
Tell us about your manufacturing capability. From where do you do the sourcing of your products?
Maishaa by Pasaya has an advanced integrated production line spread over an area of 6,40,000 sq. m.; the production facilities include in-house designers, yarn processing, weaving, bleaching, dyeing, finishing and sewing units. Each of these stages is controlled by strict quality assurance systems and conforms to European quality standards.
What kind of locations do you choose for your franchised outlets?
We prefer to franchise our outlets in metros and mini metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bengaluru and Chandigarh.
How many outlets do you have and how many more you plan to have by the year-end?
At present, we have only one exclusive outlet in Square One Mall, Saket, Delhi and have a network of 40 dealerships across India. We have also tied up with some home furnishing stores like Jagdish Store. We are planning to open around 25 new stores by the end of this fiscal year.
