A decade seems to have passed in the blink of an eye. As these ten years ticked away, India has managed to make a substantial headway from a manufacturing economy to an organised service economy. Franchising, which has been at the helm of this change, has come a long way in a short time. Recently, it got featured as a foremost business system in the `Top 20 ideas that have changed our lives` carried by India`s leading business daily `The Economic Times`.
For the last nine years, the franchise fraternity in India has turned to The Franchising World for meaningful information and insights which has paved the way for shaping their act while making a decision to start a large enterprise. We are proud to be India`s first and biggest business opportunity magazine today, and then, on such noteworthy occasion as the 10th anniversary milestone of the publication, we promise to give you plenty of reasons to stay with us for the next 15 years, which we expect will be much more structured and lucrative than the last ten.
The Anniversary Issue of The Franchising World is always the most sought after issue by the industry and its benefactors, as it pours one year of franchising efforts together by bringing to limelight those franchisors who have delivered exceptional performance within the year.
The 10th Anniversary Issue, however, is a magazine`s magazine and a collector`s issue, as for the first time ever we bring out the list of Top 100 Franchise Systems. In our previous issues, we carried a review of 50 Franchise Concepts, but this year is special, not only as our 10th Anniversary, but also because of the sanguinity that investors are bestowing on franchising more than any other sector. It was by no means a simple task for us as Editors and Staff at The Franchising World to carry out this survey and bring it all together as most franchise systems are promising and it is a Herculean task to weigh one system against another when the disparities are just marginal. To create a wholesome facet, we divided the TOP 100 feature into four distinct parts:
Established franchisors: They have been evaluated on the criterion of having a proven track record of success for over five years, integrity and commitment, success across various territories and a good public image.
Emerging franchisors: They have been evaluated on grounds of a solid USP, viable and proven business model and an operation period of less than five years.
Established international franchisors in India: International established franchisors that have expanded their franchise operations in India.
Emerging international franchisors in India: Franchisors who have either just signed a master franchise in India or are seriously looking to enter the Indian market and offer options of regional, unit or master.
While on the face of it, established franchisors look more promising in business dynamics, the reality is that in some cases, they may have saturated their market. On the other hand, emerging franchisors are rising stars and may be in a position to offer the foundation of what could be a highly profitable growth opportunity. Another distinct characteristic that has come to light is that international franchising has been intensifying in India. The broadening posse of international brands in India and new emerging international concepts have become noteworthy, and acknowledging this very fact, international franchise formats, both established and emerging, are featured in our TOP 100 survey.
