Lacoste, the Indian licence-holder brand of sports and leisure apparel, plans significant investments for the next three years. Sports and Leisure Apparel Ltd (a Turner Morrison Group company and Lacoste merchandiser) plans to close some of its stores, set up new ones and increase capacity at its Noida unit. Besides this, the company is looking forward to enhancing visibility through more print campaigns and events. Opening 8 to 10 flagship stores and nearly 50 outlets in the next three years is also foreseen. As a brand, Lacoste is recognised globally by its alligator logo. In India, its potential is not fully explored. Lacoste SA of France came to India in 1993 through franchise route. The company posted worldwide sales of € 1.5 billion (Rs 8,400 crore) last year with the expectation of hitting € 2 billion by 2008. The investment involves setting up eight and 10 flagship stores, each of which with at least 5,000 sq.ft in area.
