The Government of NCT of Delhi has launched the "Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVi)" initiative to make urban mobility greener and more seamless. Under this project, a fleet of state-of-the-art electric buses has been introduced to enhance last-mile connectivity between metro stations and major bus terminals. The initiative was flagged off by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting sustainable transportation.
The new service aims to not only offer eco-friendly public transport but also address the connectivity challenges faced by commuters over the past decade.
In the first phase, 400 DEVi electric buses have been deployed across East and West Delhi, covering areas like Ghazipur, Vinod Nagar East, and Nangloi. Each bus features 23 seats (with 6 reserved for women) and standing space for 13 passengers. The fare ranges between ₹10 and ₹25, while women commuters can avail the service free of charge. The buses will operate at 10-minute intervals, ensuring frequent and convenient service.
JBM Auto,Vice Chairman,Nishant Arya said: “launch is a reflection of how collaborative innovation between government and industry can redefine urban mobility. At JBM, we are not just manufacturing electric buses—we are building a holistic ecosystem that integrates clean energy, intelligent transport systems, and digital infrastructure.
“These DEVI electric buses are a step forward in making public transport more accessible, connected, and sustainable. As Delhi accelerates its transition to green mobility, we remain committed to delivering solutions that are not only Made in India but are truly future-ready and globally benchmarked.”
The newly launched JBM ECOLIFE electric bus is a Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) designed to reduce environmental impact significantly. Over a 10-year operational life, each bus is expected to save approximately 1,000 equivalent tons of CO₂ and 420,000 litres of diesel fuel.
To support the growing demand, JBM has established the world’s largest dedicated integrated electric bus manufacturing facility outside China, located in the Delhi-NCR region, with an annual production capacity of 20,000 electric buses.
The DEVi fleet is equipped with Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) technology, including GPS tracking, automatic passenger counting, digital route displays, voice announcements, CCTV surveillance, panic buttons, wheelchair ramps, and knee-down flooring for better accessibility. The initiative is expected to enhance safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability in Delhi's public transport system.
