Understanding the changing dynamics of the Indian F&B industry

Drink Technology India (DTI) and International PackTech India enter into the 3rd year of their successful association, highlighting the latest technological advancements catering to the beverage & food industry.

As the purveyor of beverage and food technology; Drink Technology India and International PackTech India broaden their horizon by introducing a platform to meet the ever growing needs of beverage & food industry’s stalwarts.

The entry of multinationals, aggressive rise of commodity branding and low cost of technology in India is changing the dynamics of the Indian food and beverage industry. The trade fairs will be held from 25th – 27th September, 2014 at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.

The trade fairs are positioned as a unique platform for dialogue between international suppliers of machinery and trade visitors from India. India is a huge market and given the country’s beverage & food industry’s potential for technology up-gradation, these events are much awaited by industry players.

The packaged food industry is the fifth largest sector in India. The Indian packaged food industry is worth $39.7 billion and is expected to reach $65.41 billion by 2020. With a sales volume of 30 million tonnes in 2013, India is one of the largest markets for packaged food in the world, just behind the US, China, Brazil and Mexico and the second largest in Asia.

It is expected that the demand for the packaged food in India will rise at a rate of 6 per cent to 37 million tonnes by 2017. To meet the rising demand for processed and packaged food and beverages, companies have to expand their production and as a result the demand for state-of-the-art processing and packaging technology will grow.

Additionally, with a consumption of 22 billion liters of drinks (alcoholic and soft drinks); India is the fourth largest market for beverages in Asia. The Indian non-alcoholic beverage market grew at a rate of 23 per cent between 2010 and 2013 with an increased consumption for packaged soft drinks.

Within the soft drinks market; bottled water is considered to be the largest category and demand for the same will double by 2017. Packaged juice also shows a strong increasing demand. It is expected that the consumption of juice in India will rise by an annual compound growth rate of 20 per cent until 2017 up to 1.2 billion liters.

Food processing being the key focus in 2014, the exhibitions will cover the entire process chain comprising raw materials, production, bottling, and packaging and logistics solutions. The addition of this segment confers an opportunity to the exhibitors to display machinery and equipment for varied kinds of foods e.g., confectionary and sweet products, meat, fruits and vegetables.

Drink Technology India and International PackTech India would give an impetus to the growing beverage & food industry in India by offering manufacturers a wide array of world class technologies aligned to their business needs.

Drink Technology India will introduce attractive platforms like ‘Exhibitor Forum and Roundtable Talks’ which will render an opportunity for networking, exchange of expertise and professional development for the industry professionals. Alongside, International PackTech India will host conference which will be organized by Institute of Packaging Machinery Manufacturers of India (IPMMI) which will give insights into the newer concepts and technology updates for processing & packaging.

With the inclusion of food technology; the focus will be on safety, hygiene and resource efficiency for the production and packaging processes. The event will influence the industry players, proffering a compact solution for the beverage, food and packaging industry.

DTI caters to visitors from all parts of the industry including milk and liquid dairy products, soft drinks, fruit juices, beer, brewing industry, wine, sparkling wine, services, advertising and food processing industry. International PackTech India on the other hand, would cater to visitors across food processing, production of packaging material, automation technology, store, logistics, transport equipment, environmental technology and processing recycling. International PackTech India is supported by Indian Flexible Packaging and Folding Carton Manufacturers Association, Institute of Packaging Manufacturers of India, Mumbai.

Some of the leading firms participating at Drink Technology India are KHS, KRONES, Pentair, Sidel, Buhler, Brewforce, Manjushree and Siemens along with other technology giants.
