Admitting that Assam was industrially backward, its Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi urged Planning Commission to provide transport subsidy for young entrepreneurs of the state.
"I will take it up with the Planning Commission to provide subsidy in transportation which will develop the industrial sector in the state," Gogoi said at a press conference on Saturday.
"Big industrialists have not come to the state despite the improved law and order scenario. Our strategies have to be changed and small and medium cottage industries should be set up for which the transport subsidy is a must", he added.
Connectivity was his top most priority in the third consecutive term of Congress government in the state, minister said adding that economic development was a must without which the basic problems afflicting the state will not be resolved.
Stressing that importance was not given to the problem of erosion caused by Brahmaputra in the state, Gogoi stated that Rs 15,000 crore has been sanctioned by Planning Commission for irrigation and anti erosion schemes in the state.
